Walker walks all over the house these days using his school bus or his walker. This clip shows him walking straight but he's learned how to turn the bus, go around obstacles and get where he wants to go. Of course, when Grammie and Papa are at the house they like for him to go back and forth between them, so this is what you get to see. :) Oh, and not without a little encouragement from Aunt Crystal!
Walker has really been getting to experiment with finger foods the past two weeks. Some of the things he's tasted and loved are: fresh pineapple, banana, pears, pieces of a multi-grain waffle, noodles and a potato chip. The potato chip was on accident. See, one of us dropped it on the livingroom floor evidently. I saw it early Monday morning and meant to walk right back in and pick it up but I guess I forgot because the next time I remembered it was when I saw a tiny piece stuck to the corner of Walker's mouth. :) The rest was nowhere to be found. I can only assume...
The little man has turned into what I have coined the Georgia Cyclone. He's in to everything. I think I say that almost everytime I post. It just gets more and more. He's learned how to open cabinets and drawers now. You can imagine that he pulls out everything. I've toyed with getting the cabinet locks but I think we're not going to at this point. We want to let him explore and "What To Expect The First Year" says that it's good for his intellectual and physical development. Eventually, we will have to teach him what's safe and not once he's a little older and can understand. He likes to pull his clothes out of his drawer in his room, which we try and discourage. I think he's catching on because today he tore down the hall and turned to look at us when he got to his doorway. Then he turned back around and headed for the dresser. When I said "no, Walker...we don't play with drawers" he turned around and looked at us and then smiled and went straight for the drawer, opened it, and looked back at us as if to say "Oh yeah? Now what??" So, we did what any new parents would do. Cliff walked away so Walker wouldn't see him laugh and I went in the room to move him from the drawers...only to watch him climb behind the glider to the humidifier, which he also knows he isn't supposed to be playing with. This also warranted a few looks back at mommy. He's starting to purposely challenge me, I think. Oh goodness. It starts.
He's been having terrible bedtime experiences lately and not wanting to go to sleep until much later than normal. We've been trying relentlessly to stick to our 6:30 or 7:00 bedtime and it's caused us all heartache and grief. (I use those terms loosely). Well, we decided we were just going to let him stay up later because he's been so eager to play and not sleep. We went to dinner (which took much longer than we anticipated because of bad service) and ended up being there two hours but Walker did GREAT. We got back home and he played with his company...Papa, Grammie, Uncle Stephen and Aunt Crystal...and then I told him it was time for bed. He was still showing no signs of tiredness except he was falling down all over the place, which he usually doesn't do these days, so I knew it was time. I took him in his room, gave him the bottle and put him down. He was still awake and cried the "I'm eventually going to give it up" cry and within 10 minutes he was asleep. Haven't heard from him since. I don't expect him to go all night as he's teething, still has strep, etc...but hey, this went much better for us. Kathy's been telling me all along he doesn't have to go to bed so early. Neither of her boys ever went to bed before 9 from the time they were born until present. I kinda hope this is a summer thing and he goes to bed early again when I go back to work. It's nice to have that time to regroup and get things done for the next day. I guess I'll have to learn to do it with the pitter-patter of little feet behind me all the way.
He says "Dada" "Daddy" and "DoDo" all day long. He's starting to say a "g" word that sounds like "good" so I am not sure if that's next or what.
I saw a 9 month old in the doc's office yesterday clapping her hands when her mommy sang a song and said "clap your hands..." so now you better believe I'm practicing that. Walker mainly just thinks it's funny when I clap my hands and likes me to clap his hands too.
Finally, I wanted to let you all know that Cliff and I are experiencing a peace about the whole situation that we currently find ourselves in. We have heard so many encouraging stories, responses, etc to what we are going through. The nurse who works for Dr. Miller and lives in our neighborhood even called us after hours to let us know that Dr. Miller wasn't concerned at all about Walker's lump and that they literally see this all the time. She said that if Dr. Miller had been concerned Walker would have been on his way in today. This was so encouraging to me along with all the other comments, emails, phone calls, etc we've gotten over the past few days. News certainly travels fast and we are so appreciative of the prayers. We feel them from all around and know that God is in complete control. I don't know if any of you follow the link I have to CF husband on my blog page...but if you don't you should check it out. I don't know this person, but his story and life have encouraged me greatly. I know in my own personal life I have felt God at work and bringing me to a place where I can fully rely on Him during the storms, back to a place where I have longed to be because I've been here before and know the greatness that comes from trusting in my Savior. CF husband had the Message translation of Jeremiah 29:11 posted on his blog yesterday and I wanted to share it here. Please do not worry for us. Our God is bigger than this storm we find ourselves in. He is in total control and doesn't need any of us trying to make sense of this...He's got it all figured out, and thankfully He knows what is best.
Here's the verse...and goodnight!!
Jeremiah 29:11 (The Message)
I'll show up and take care of you as I promised
and bring you back home.
I know what I'm doing.
I have it all planned out -
plans to take care of you,
not abandon you,
plans to give you the future you hope for.
