I had a very wonderful weekend! Friday night Cliff and I were supposed to have a date night, but by the time I got home from work and he got home from football practice we were both too exhausted to do anything but lay on the couch and doze in and out...so that's what we did, and just what we needed.
Saturday we headed to Aunt Cindy's house so that I could go to my shower in Madison and Cliff could spend the day with the guys of the family doing guy stuff...
The shower was held at my late Grandparents house, which is now occupied by Ken and Michelle. It was very special to have a baby shower in that house and remember all the fun times and wonderful memories shared there. The shower was so nice and relaxing. We have a small family on that side, so it was a small gathering and just what I needed that particular day. I was able to really get to talk with the guests and catch up with some I hadn't seen in quite a while. My grandmother's sister, Grace, was there and it was wonderful to have someone that was so close to my Grandmother celebrate with us. The food was so cute...little sandwiches cut into duck shapes were my favorite! I ATE. Ironically, two hours later my blood sugar was fine even after eating half of a cheesecake cupcake, some fruit and several duckie chicken salad sandwiches.
After the shower we met up with the men folk and had a great time of family fun. The boys were draining Cindy and David's pond and got filthy. They did this all day long and then caught the "jumping" fish in nets or with their bare hands and cleaned those most of the night. You can imagine at that point, us girls were sitting at the table eating dinner. That just seemed more appealing than watching them clean fish. :)
Sunday I had a shower at Dad and Kathy's church hosted by several of the wonderful ladies at Milstead Baptist. This was such a sweet and generous thing for them to do for me and I got so many wonderful gifts. I don't see alot of those people often so it was great to get to sit around and talk with the people that my parents have grown to love so much. They truly have been a blessing in my own life through the blessing they have been for Dad and Kathy. Kathy got me a bag full of gowns and PJ's that are nursing compatable as well as some nursing bras and other personal care items that she figured others wouldn't buy but knew I would need...like breast gel packs for soothing after breastfeeding.
After the shower, Kathy took me to get a manicure and pedicure as one last spoil Nicole hoorah. This just made my day! I seriously almost fell asleep in the pedicure chair because I was so relaxed...and because it was Sunday afternoon. That's what I do on Sundays!
We have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday at my normal doctor and then on Friday at the specialist for our next ultrasound. We'll find out then approximately how much the little guy is weighing and I'm speculating that if there's any reason for an induction or c-section to be scheduled due to his size we will have an idea about that by next Friday as well. I'm hoping the gestational diabetes has been controlled enough that he hasn't grown in massive strides since our last ultrasound, but my feelings definitely won't be hurt if Walker has to come meet us early.
I'm sooo very ready to have this baby. I have reached that point where I am just no longer comfortable no matter what I do. People tell me over and over how much worse it's going to get. Why do they do that? How come I can't just assume I have it as bad as it will get now?? :)
I am very tired, so I am going to end this update now...I now I've left out many details from the past few days, but as time draws nearer, I am less and less motivated to do ANYTHING that requires thought! Goodnight!
Picture explanations:
1. The one with the ladies and myself around the table of food is a pic of the ladies who hosted the shower at Milstead.
2. The one of me in the rocking chair is from the shower on Mom's side of the family.
3. The side profile shot is just BIG. (me at 35 weeks)
4. The one with Cliff in the water and Joshie trying to "help" him back up onto the boat, just followed a very funny moment!
