I had my 32 week check-up today. Even though I’m not technically 32 weeks until Saturday…
My doctor said today though “32 weeks tomorrow…” so that made me wonder if I’ve been switching on the wrong day of the week? Oh well, Saturday is close enough. I’ve considered Saturday my switch day for the previous 32 weeks so 8 more won’t hurt!
This was a good appointment! I had lost a pound, which isn’t normally recommended during pregnancy but was expected due to the diet the specialist has me on to control my blood sugar. When I showed Patti my numbers today she told me that they were awesome and better than someone who didn’t even have diabetes. She asked me what I had been eating and I told her I’d only been eating one egg and a slice of wheat toast for breakfast and she about had a fit. I told her that’s what the OB specialist told me to eat and she said “Do they KNOW you are pregnant??” Which is funny, because of course they know it. They are gestational diabetes specialists after all, which means in order for them to treat me I have to be pregnant. She was being sarcastic and this made me laugh. She told me that wasn’t nearly enough and that I needed to be eating two eggs and two pieces of wheat toast. I can even have jelly on one! She even told me to pick up my eating at lunch a little as well. She said to maybe leave dinner the same since my numbers were higher (not high) then.
My blood pressure was slightly elevated. It was 133 over something…I want to say 76, but I can’t remember for sure. The girl told me that it wasn’t anything to be alarmed about though.
I’ve forgotten to mention the world’s worst leg cramp in my past few posts. I woke up a few weeks ago with the worst cramp that I’ve ever had. I woke up in a spew of cries and screams…as well did Cliff. He’s so great, he just gets up and starts rubbing my leg. First he asked me where and I said my thigh…which isn’t where it was at. I was just so out of it I couldn’t think of what my calf was called. So, when he started rubbing my thigh I said “no not there, the other place…” and he went to the calf. It was so tight that he could not get my foot to flex using my force and his combined. He rubbed it for about 15 minutes before it finally went away. I screamed and cried the whole time. He was so patient. I think I’m going to be a baby during labor. I’ve had a few more since then, but none so bad thankfully.
This week marks the beginning of my two-week appointments. When I go back I will be 34 weeks pregnant and only 6 weeks from my due date. I think I will have another appointment at 36 weeks and then I think they start seeing me every week. It’s getting to close!
