I don't normally update my blog the day after I've already updated but we were so excited after meeting with the diabetic specialist today that I can't help it! Turns out this diabetic thing has more perks than me just losing a few pounds...
We went in for an ultrasound expecting it to be strictly for medical purposes and hoping to get a glance at the screen from time to time. However, the room was set up just like my doctor's office with the big screen on the wall above us for us to watch everything they were doing. We had about a 20 minute ultrasound and every minute of it was so precious!
There's so much they told us that I'm having a really hard time remembering it all...but there are several things I do remember. I'm just going to write them out in list form to save time and space...I could go on and on about this because it was so FUN!
Important Facts:
*Walker has a HEAD FULL of hair! (This is weird to me b/c I hadn't really thought about whether or not he'd have hair)
*He currently weighs right at 4 lbs according to their calculations. (This is right where he's supposed to be)
*I can expect a 7.5 lb baby if he keeps up this growth rate. (MUSIC to my ears since with gestational diabetes I could very well birth a 10-12 lb baby...or bigger!)
*All his little bones were measuring either right on time or a few days bigger except his legs. He has short legs! We are laughing imagining him with Cliff's top and my bottom half.
*He's so darn cute! Even the ultrasound tech kept using a high pitched voice and telling him how cute he is.
*He is head down with his head on my right side. His back is curled up around my left side and his booty is right between my ribs. This is what I have been feeling the most and all along thinking it was his feet. His legs are curled up on my right side and he is sitting criss cross applesauce style with his knees bent behind him.
*We saw two beans but he hid the frank today! (that's my boy!)
*All his organs looked great.
*All his structures were good.
*My cervix is twice as thick as a normal person's...I asked what this meant and he said it meant that I could expect a very long labor. Great...
*The ultrasound tech gave us three pics and told us to hide them so that when we saw the doctor next he wouldn't know how many she gave us. :)
*According to how things are going now, the specialist saw no indication of having to have a c-section due to the diabetes.
*I got permission to start checking my sugar only two times a day as opposed to 5. This is great news!
*I also got confirmation that I can eat more because my numbers are so good. Yay, me and my pancreas!
We had Cracker Barrell afterwards. I wasn't sure what to order but finally settled on the Smothered Grilled Chicken Tenderloins on the low carb menu. I ordered green beans and a side salad, both also low carb options. Then, for my starch I choose to indulge in a biscuit with strawberry jelly. I also ordered unsweet tea and put lemon and splenda in it. Yum! When I checked my sugar it was at 112. This was excellent. Very excited to know I can eat Crackerbarrell and even have a biscuit from time to time!
Enough about me. I am so excited because I have two good friends who are newly preggo! Jennifer Freeman and Kim McCreary are both expecting babies and I am tickled pink...or blue...for both of them. They are both 8 weeks and currently enjoying the early stages of sickness. I feel for them but rejoice with them because I know it will pass and they will love every minute of that passing!
Well, that's all the update for now. Hope you enjoy the pic. Oh, his face is on the right incase you don't understand ultrasound pics. You can see his little cheeks which are the whiter part and his eyes and nose. On the screen you could make this out much better and I think he looked just like Cliff! The picture of course isn't as good quality but maybe you can get the point...
