Walker has always been one to want to know the "why" behind almost everything...why something works the way it does, why he has to do what he's asked, why we do this, why we do that, why we HAVE to do some of the things we do, etc...
Here recently however, he's reached a new level of questioning. The kid asks questions nonstop and it's funny to see the patterns developing in his questions. Certain situations/events almost always trigger certain questions...the SAME questions we've answered over and over. It's not because he doesn't remember...the kid has always had a killer memory...and when we reverse the situation and ask HIM the question, he totally knows the answer we are about to give. Yet, he asks anyway...which makes me wonder who's really all the smarter here??? Mom, Dad or....is it possible, Walker? Could he potentially intentionally be TRYING to rake our nerves? No...not our perfect little boy....NEVER!
I don't want to forget some of the things he asks because I know eventually they will trigger funny and fond memories...and because of the simple fact that we already laugh as soon as he opens his mouth to ask some (to ourselves of course) we know that this is one of those Walkerisms we will just have to embrace for a while.
So...here goes...
When crossing the railroad tracks near our house he always asks "Why don't the trains run? Why don't they run at night? Why are their no timbers on those tracks?" EVERYTIME. Hands down-no exceptions...
Almost every Friday night, with few exceptions, we go to our friends' Cristy & Tory's house. If Friday doesn't work out, we typically do a Sunday night dinner. They have two boys and a daughter and we absolutely love spending time with them. Our friendship has escalated to atypical levels with them in the 6 months we've been spending time together. Both our same sex friendships as well as our couple friendship and "family" friendships we've created have been incredibly rewarding and a huge blessing to us. God placed them in our lives at just the right time. We have done a few Bible studies together, prayed one another through several circumstances, shared levels of friendship that typically take years to build and established a complete comfort in each others' homes and with each others families that can only be accomplished through the act of God placing us each others' lives...but with that comes it's "down-sides"...and in this particular case, just one. :) QUESTIONS! Walker loves going to Mr. Tory & Mrs. Cristy's...he always has a blast...but it's always late and dark when we leave and well, they live near some trees. :) Imagine that. So...all of that to share MORE questions that are extremely repetitive and entertaining in our lives. This started weeks ago and continues each time we leave.
Can Coyotes eat us? Do they live in those woods? When do they come out? Why do coyotes come out when they are hungry? Why are they hungry so much? Do some coyotes live in trees? Can they crawl down trees? Why do they live in the woods? Can they climb a car? Will they climb our car? Where do bears live? Do they live on that curvy road where I got sick because Daddy was driving too fast? Why do gorillas live in the jungle? Is that close? What do gorillas eat?
And in case you are wondering if I am exaggerating...no, I am not. I text Cristy the questions as they come out all the way home. So, I simply had to look back at my recent text messages.
Every Sunday and Wednesday when we go to church we pass by a rather large "indention" in the Earth for lack of a better word and Walker always asks "What lives in there?"
Every Saturday morning, like clockwork, he wakes up and says "What are we going to do today? Where are we going?"
The most recent questions to develop have been those related to pooh. And no, not THAT kind of "poo", though we do have many conversations centered around such things. But, we have a honeypot that has Winnie the Pooh in it. It's recently come out of the woodwork with Will's impending arrival and Walker is very curious as to "Why is Pooh in the honeypot? Why isn't Tigger? How did Pooh get in the honeypot?"
And, though it may not seem like it, we DO answer him every single time...and our answers are consistent time and time again...but I guess he just can't help but QUESTION. :)
