We had our first ultrasound today! I was so worried that Cliff wasn't going to get there on time. His planning doesn't start until 2:15 and the appointment was at 1:45. Normally they are running so behind, but wouldn't you know I walked in and there wasn't a soul in the waiting room? Well, I didn't know it but Cliff had arranged to have someone cover his class so he could leave at 2:00 and he got there in plenty of time because turns out there is only one ultrasound room and we had to wait on it...even though the lady behind the desk was also worried Cliff wouldn't get there on time. It was cute, she cheered when she saw that he'd made it. Anyway, they did the usual weighing and stuff. I've gained too much weight-yes, they told me that. At that point I was so "sad" that I was almost hoping for twins, so at least I'd have an excuse! Well, we went in and they did the ultrasound. We got to hear the heartbeat! It was so neat and I cried a little. Then, they did the measurements and showed us the baby. It was measuring at 7 weeks rather than 8. This didn't worry the doctors at all because I had told them that my cycles weren't the normal 28 days, they were about a week later than that which would make sense that the baby is a week "younger" than what they predicted on a 28 day cycle. So, our new due date for now is May 3, 2007. The first few times I looked at the pic, I didn't think it looked like a baby at all (and of course it won't at 7 weeks) but now that I am looking at it a little more indepth, it kind of looks like an upside down gummy bear. We did get a picture, but I can't scan it in like I had planned because something is up with my printer. It has a built in scanner and an exclamation point keeps flashing that won't let me do anything but check the ink cartridge. Well, I've done that a million times and it still won't let me scan. Oh well. They have us scheduled for another ultrasound in 4 weeks for precautionary reasons, but said that they expected everything to be fine.
Cliff's bloodwork wasn't in yet on the cystic fibrosis carrier gene, so they held off on that. They said that if he tested positive they would then send us to the high risk specialist, but if not then all should be well, generally speaking. They also confirmed that I will be having the rhogam shot later in the pregnancy to balance out my blood type with the baby's since I am rh negative. This is for future births in case the baby's blood mixes with mine at delivery.
Well, that's about all the news I have. We are going to visit our good friends Josh and Beth this weekend in Hiawassee and I can hardly wait. It's been forever since we've seen our "Friday night friends..."
I was so sad the last time we had to come home and got teary eyed. I know with my hormones I will probably cry when I see Beth and when I have to leave her.
Well, that's all for now. Everyone have a great weekend!
