Walker's Fifth Birthday

We celebrated Walker's fifth birthday last month!  He was very particular about how he wanted it to go down, and I think it was more perfect than we could have imagined.  He was very insistant that he didn't want a party.  No friends.  Being the social little man that he is with his friends, I was shocked.  I was also very worried that when it came down to it, his actual birthday, he'd be really disappointed with his decision.  So, for a minute I tried to talk him into having a party, to no avail.  And honestly, I was secretly glad.  He wanted a day of fishing with his Daddy and Cor-Cor.  This is something he loves to do with them, and so Daddy and Cor-Cory arranged their plans around making this little boy's birthday dream day come true.
I did manage to talk him into a family only party-grandparents and aunts and uncles.  It was great!  I think we enjoyed this party more than any other.  I had no one ounce of stress on me and truly just enjoyed watching my little boy turn five.  I spent a lot of time that day reflecting on his precious life and all the blessings the last five years have brought us.

Grammie offered to do cupcakes and ice cream for Walker's party, so I literally just had to show up.  She decided to get creative and try to make him a Power Ranger cake.  He was happy and surprised and loved it.  Grammie kept insisting she was no cake artist (and she's not), but we LOVED the cake and knew it was made out of pure unconditional love.  She did tell me to not post it on facebook, but she said nothing about the blog.  I am pretty sure I posted it on facebook too though.  :)  Sorry, Grammie.  But, we love it and are proud of you!
We had a great day celebrating with Walker's grandparents and aunts and uncles.  He got some really cool presents and had a great day!  We enjoyed spending the evening with Nonni once we got back to our house, too!

We had Walker's birthday week off of school, so on his actual birthday he had requested to go play putt putt with a friend.  We took the three boys to Discover Mills and played indoor putt putt, went to Bass Pro (BIG hit with all the boys), got birthday cookies, ate lunch and went to Dave & Busters to play some games.  Walker said it was the best birthday ever!

A day or two after he turned five, he learned to ride his bike with no training wheels.  Now he's an old pro.  We've been enjoying bike rides and lots of other run with our five year old.
He never ceases to amaze me with his knowledge and understandings.  He's the smartest five year old boy I know.  I love how he has two sides-he's shy and he's not.  I like how comfortable he is in his element-how he's the life of the party, the sunshine on a cloudy day.  I love that some people who haven't known him as long and see him in social situations where he's comfortable balk when I call him my shy one.  But, I also love that he's a little more reserved when he's uncomfortable.  I think there's a time and place for both, and it will keep him humble.
He makes us laugh, keeps us on our toes, encourages us, teaches us, grows us and warms our hearts.  We love you, Walker Cole Roberts.  You'll never know the amount of sunshine you bring to our lives.  You'll always be my favorite big boy! :)
