...that's right, Will is 10 months old today! I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how that happened.
At 10 months, Will is taking 4 and 5 steps here and there. Nothing consistent and still no video to show for it. I have tried and tried to get him on video, but he still just does it so randomly and unprompted that I just haven't been able to. Walker keeps saying "mama get the video he is about to walk..." but I am never quick enough!
He can free stand on any surface-even our bed! He has gotten really good at that-just isn't certain he wants to walk or not once he gets there. He is still cruising all over the place...he also is still crawling. He is such a fast crawler. That boy can go! He has learned how to open cabinet doors in the past few months, and now tears everything out of my cabinets. (no, we don't have cabinet guards though I am highly considering it this go round). He gets pretty much into anything he wants to. He is a very determined child.
One of his new favorite things is getting in and out of things. He also likes to climb, so if he can climb in and out of something he is really in baby heaven! He loves clothes baskets, storage tubs and plastic toy boxes. He also likes climbing over the bars on the bottom of the kitchen chairs and getting inside the chair...but then can't figure out how to get out for some reason, even though it's the same way he got in! Ha ha. Crazy kid.
He is obsessed with balls and cars. But, aren't all men?? HA HA. (sorry). He loves to play with balls. He rolls them and chases them, throws them, puts them in things, bounces them off my head, etc. He can find a ball in the middle of a huge toy mess. He is recognizing more and more and can go and find a few certain things we tell him. Some of this may be a repeat from last month's post, but he can identify his duck, turtle, ball, car, bottle, diaper and a few other things. He also knows the meaning of "do you want to eat? do you want to take a bath? throw your ball. hey will. where is your bottle? do you want a puff?" and some others. Another interest is music. Will is extremely interested in music. So much so that I wonder if there is a future in it for him? Of course, Walker had no interest in music whatsoever, until very recently...so this could just be a normal amount of baby interest and I just don't know it. He loves to listen to my iPod. He will lay on the floor and hold it and sing with it. On the song "How He Loves Us," he will say "oooohhh..." after they do in the song. All the rest of the song and the other songs he sings long strands of the short a sound. Aaaaahhh... Over and over in a sing songy voice. He sways back and forth to slower music and "bops" to more upbeat music. It's so cute. The past couple nights we have let him fall asleep listening to the Fish. It has pretty much taken away any bedtime resistance for him.
Speaking of resistance, at 10 months Will knows what he does and doesn't like and he isn't afraid to show it. Not at all. He has quite a temper. One of our closest friends who spends more time with Will than most says "your youngest son needs anger management..." lol. And he does-but in the cutest way possible, of course! He continues to be the happiest baby, until, like she says...you either do something he doesn't want you to do, or won't let him do something he wants. So yeah, as long as we are willing to let him be in charge, life is good. :)
Will is trying HARD to talk. His favorite sound is the "d" sound. Pretty much everything comes out with the "d" sound. I was telling Dr. Gamble this the other day and how he would wave and say "dey" for hey. So, right on cue he did it for her, right after I said it...He waved and said "dey," as he flashed that sweet smile at her.
He also says "dall" for ball, "da da" for anything he wants but isn't sure how to say it, in addition to actually identifying Cliff as da da. He has said mama a few times the past week or so, and more and more the past couple of days, but most of the time I am still da da as well. He will use his "b" sound for "ba ba" (bottle), and sometimes he says "bubba"...and we've only ever heard him say it when he hits Walker, but we aren't sure that's what he is calling Walker. I do refer to Walker as "brother" sometimes, so maybe?
Will is almost 100% against being fed by an adult. He wants to be in total control. He will yell and scream at us if we are holding the spoon. It used to satisfy him to have his own, but once he realized that we were still doing the feeding that stopped working. Now, he pretty much eats table foods entirely and we sneak bites with his spoon in as he doesn't realize it. He gets his own spoon and tries his hardest to scoop up food from his tray. (he can't and we won't give him a bowl, because in Will's world that is for putting on your head.) Mealtime for Will has really caused a lot of frustration for Cliff and I...or anyone else who feeds him-grandparents and sitters included. But, in the end it's all worth it and now that we are learning what makes him happy it's going a lot more smoothly.
About the only baby food Will still eats is oatmeal cereal with fruit mixed in it. He eats us out of house and home with table food. Grammie commented the other night that she couldn't believe how much he ate and ate and ate. He is never full. The doctor says this is ok and to feed him whenever he wants to eat, even if he isn't on a perfect schedule right now, that he's learning and experimenting with foods and of course when he sees us eating, he wants to eat.
So, some of his new favorites that he has had some are cheese quesadillas, pizza, waffles, lima beans, real bananas, mashed (skinless) grapes, ritz crackers, hamburger (lol), spaghetti casserole, and pretty much anything within reason that we eat. If he wants to try it, we usually let him as long as it's decently healthy. He still loves vegetables and fruit, with the exception of broccoli.
Will has a few favorite places in our house-the playroom, our closet and the bathrooms. We cleaned out our closet over Christmas break and he can now crawl all the way to the back. He knows Daddy's guitar is in there, and he goes in any chance he gets to play the guitar. He sings with that too. :)
He makes a bee line for the bathroom anytime he hears the creak of that door. He knows the sound and in this small house, never misses it. I am ashamed to tell you, for fear of looking like bad parents, how many times we have found him swishing the toilet water. :( He just loves it.
He will also beat on the door of the bathroom begging for a bath. If I am using the bathroom and Cliff isn't there, you better believe he is right there with me. He beats on the tub, yells and looks at me. Then tries to throw his leg over, but he can't. And one day he is gonna, and he will fall in and I am just gonna laugh because he shoulda let me poop in peace!! Seriously the other night my stomach was SO upset. Will was in the bathroom beating on the tub and yelling at me, trying to get in...and Walker was flying his toy over my head making war noises and I kept thinking "I am really, really, really going to miss this one day..." (I don't always feel that way, but in that moment I did...)
We had Will's 9 month check up on Friday, two days before he turned 10 months. They originally had us scheduled for the week he turned 9 months, but had to reschedule because the PA we were seeing had to leave the office. His stats were:
Weight: 19 lbs 4.5 oz
Height: 29.25 inches
That put him between the 75th-90th percentile for height and between the 30th-50th in weight. His head measured 18 cm. Still normal. Everything checked out well. We were able to answer "yes" to all the milestone questions.
Will continues to still just love everyone. No one on the outside believes us when we talk about his temper. I guess you have to be really close to Will to get to see that. :) Thankfully enough people are that we don't look like liars too often. :) Overall, his temper is a minor part of his total self, and he is the most loving and sweet little boy. He is also really rough. I cannot wait to see what the future holds with he and Walker. He will pick at Walker, doing things that it's almost like he knows will instigate something. It's so funny to watch them go.
Will attracts a lot of attention in public. He's an extremely social baby, so the total opposite of what Walker was like. He waves and "talks" to everyone. He loves attention and will smile at anyone and everyone.
These two pictures are at dinner one night last week. Will reached for (and successfully attained) the serving spoon of the edge of the table. It had mashed potatoes all over it, and I think he realized it! He had already eaten all of the ones off my plate! We just let him have at it while we were eating. He had a great time. :)
In this picture he is chasing a pea with the spoon. He eventually wised up and used his other hand to place it on the spoon. Of course while he was trying to fit the massive spoon in his mouth, it fell off. :) At least he got more mashed potatoes!
I am short on pictures because I left my camera at my moms. That's also why I haven't done a Christmas update...but I will, soon!
